Eight persons suffered injuries at the jallikattu held in Koodamalai village, near Gangavalli here, on Monday.
The event was inaugurated by Udumalai K. Radhakrishnan, Minister for Animal Husbandry. K. Gopal, Secretary, Animal Husbandry Department, Rohini R. Bhajibhakare, District Collector, and Georgy George, Superintendent of Police, were present.
The event commenced with the administration of oath by Dr. Gopal to the bull tamers.
About 600 bulls from Salem, Tiruchi, Dindigul, Perambalur, and Namakkal districts were released through the vaadivasal after medical screening and about 425 bull tamers attempted to tame them. The youths who successfully managed to tame the animals were give air-coolers, cots, almirahs, gold and silver coins, mobile phones as prizes.
The owners of the bulls which managed to give a slip to the youths were also given prizes.
Eight bull tamers suffered injuries. While three of them were admitted to the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital, five were treated at the Government Hospital, Attur.
A large number of people from Attur, Gangavalli, Thammampatti, Sentharapatti witnessed the event.
The police had made elaborate security arrangements.
