Durai assumes charge as DCP (Traffic)

M. Durai, a 2009 batch Indian Police Service officer, assumed charge as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Coimbatore city, on Wednesday replacing S. Saravanan, who has been posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters), Chennai.

Speaking to The Hindu on Wednesday, Mr. Durai said that his focus will be on achieving long term goals in effective traffic management in Coimbatore.

“Coimbatore is a good city blessed with good roads and law abiding citizen compared to other tier-II cities. But the city needs to achieve long term goals to ease traffic management,” said Mr. Durai.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Durai was the Superintendent of Police, Nagapattinam. He had also served positions as SP of Tuticorin and Sivagangai districts.

A native of Dharmapuri, Mr. Durai studied B.Sc Agricultire at Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, Coimbatore.
