Draft electoral rolls out

The draft electoral roll published by Tirupur Corporation for the expanded city limits has 4,08,300 voters (2,14,728 men and 1,93,572 women) spread over 60 wards.

The number of Wards has been increased from 52 to 60 this time following the recent merger of eight adjoining village panchayats (Chettipalayam, Neruparichal, Mannarai, Thottipalayam, Aandipalayam, Muthanampalayam, Veerapandi and Murugampalayam) and two third grade municipalities (15 Velampalayam and Nallur) into the Corporation.

Of the 60 Wards, only six have more than 10,000 voters. Ward 42 has the most number of electorate (14,147).

Official sources said that the people whose names were not figuring in the voter list could enrol their names in Form 6 till the last date of filing of nominations.

As many as 425 polling booths had been arranged to enable the voters to exercise their franchise in the elections to the Corporation council.

Of this, 61 booths each would be exclusively set for men and women voters, respectively, with the remaining meant for ‘all voters'.

The nominations for the post of Mayor would be accepted by the Corporation Commissioner, who is also the returning officer for the elections.

In the case of councillors, the nominations would be accepted at different designated offices spread across the city.

The candidates who wished to contest for Wards 1 to 15 should file the papers at 15 Velampalayam municipal office.

Likewise, nomination papers for Wards 16 to 23 would be accepted at Thottiapalayam panchayat new office building, for Wards 24 to 30 at Thottipalayam panchayat old office edifice, for Wards 31 to 45 at Nallur municipal office old building and for Wards 46 to 60 at Nallur municipal new building.
