The strike by doctors affiliated to the Federation of Government Doctors Association (FOGDA) made little impact on medical services in Government Hospitals in Coimbatore district on Thursday.

Health Department officials said that the Government Hospitals in the district functioned normally on Thursday.

While the protest entered seventh day in other districts, a few number of doctors attached to FODGA in Coimbatore joined the State-wide agitation on Thursday.

Sources said that only 30 out of 250 postgraduate students of the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) joined the strike and they staged a protest on the hospital premises in the morning.

They held placards of various demands including salary on a par with the Central Government doctors. House surgeons did not take part in the strike.

N. Ravishankar, State secretary of Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Association (TNGDA), which is the strongest body of government doctors in the region, said that the association did not back the strike as it was in talks with the government which had given assurance to attend to doctors’ demands.

Sources added that the CMCH had 100 % attendance of doctors during the protest up to Wednesday.
