Bharatiya Janata Party national secretary H. Raja said here on Tuesday the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) had taken efforts along with its allies to have the Tiruvarur byelection postponed as it feared a defeat; that it would be pushed to the third position as in the R.K. Nagar byelection.

Mr. Raja told presspersons that DMK president Mr. Stalin’s proposal of Congress president Rahul Gandhi for the Prime Ministership was not accepted. Now, Mr. Stalin feared he would lose his stature as a leader if his party lost the bypoll.

The BJP leader said the Centre had agreed to construct 2.10 lakh houses in the Cyclone Gaja-hit districts at about ₹ 6,000 crore.
