Members of the Coimbatore unit of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Monday staged a protest at Red Cross Junction, condemning the milk price rise and anti-people policies of the AIADMK Government.

Led by Coimbatore district secretary Pongalur N. Palanisamy, the members shouted slogans against the State Government for increasing the price of a litre of milk by Rs. 10 and proposing to raise power tariff.

Mr. Palanisamy said that the increase in milk price had hit hard the people from the lower and middle income groups, who spent about one-fourth of their salary on purchasing milk.

The people who were suffering had suffered another blow with the State Government planning to raise power tariff.

The DMK, when it was in power, had increased milk price by only Rs. 5.25.

The AIADMK Government had increased the price by Rs. 14.50 a litre, which was proof of its anti-people policies.

In Coimbatore, Mr. Palanisamy said, the industries had suffered because of the continuing power cut.

Production had come down and the State Government’s scheme to procure wet grinders was not helping, either. And the near future looked gloomy.

He then urged the voters to teach the AIADMK Government a lesson in the 2016 Assembly election.

Senior leaders Mu. Kannappan, Mu. Ramanathan, Viduthalai Virumbi, Subbaiyan, M. Veeragopal, and others participated.
