Discharge from Mettur Dam reduced

The discharge of water from the Stanley Reservoir in Mettur for farm activities in the Cauvery basin was stepped down on Saturday.

The discharge for delta districts remained 22,000 cusecs (cubic feet per second) from September 13 and was stepped up to 24,000 cusecs only on Friday. On the very next day, the discharge was brought down to 10,000 cusecs, according to Public Works Department sources.

Another 600 cusecs of water was being released for farm operations under the dam’s east and west canal system.

Water level

The water level in Mettur Dam stood at 104.27 ft on Sunday morning, against the full level of 120 ft. The storage level was 70.487 tmc ft, against the dam’s full capacity of 93.47 tmc ft.

There is also a fall in the realisation of water in River Cauvery at Mettur.

The inflow that was more than 20,000 cusecs for the last four days, dropped to 16,545 cusecs on Sunday.
