Dengue: people asked to prevent stagnation of rainwater

Monitoring officials review preventive measures in Namakkal and Dharmapuri

District Monitoring Officer and Food and Consumer Protection Secretary Dayanand Kataria reviewed dengue prevention measures in the district on Wednesday.

Mr. Kataria and Namakal Collector K. Megraj visited the special fever camps set up at Boyar Colony near Muthukalipatti and Sellapampatti.

Mr. Kataria interacted with the public and advised them to prevent stagnation of rainwater on their premises and cover vessels storing water with lids to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes that transmit the dengue-causing virus.

According to officials, facilities to check blood platelet count are available at 38 places in the district, across all government hospitals and at a few primary health centres.

Mr. Megraj said special wards had been set up at the government hospitals in the district.

Even after fever subsided, patients were kept under observation for 72 hours before being discharged.

The details of fever patients at private hospitals were also being collected through Health Department officials every day.

Mr. Kataria also reviewed sanitation works in areas under the Namakkal Municipality. The officials also inspected infrastructure works in Alavaipetti, Rasipuram, Vennandhur and Kavundampalayam panchayats and also kudimaramathu works.

Principal Secretary to the government, Department of Information Technology, Santhosh Babu reviewed dengue control measures in Dharmapuri on Wednesday.

According to an administration release, Dr. Santosh Babu inspected the panchayat union elementary school in Appusamudiram panchayat in Nallampalli block, and also inspected the desilting works under the kudimaramathu scheme in Annasaragam lake.
