The Anna Thozirsanga Peravai, the labour wing of AIADMK, organised a massive protest in the city on Thursday in order to press their demands on Cauvery water issue and register their protests against the recent upward revision of diesel price and railway tariff.

The agitators shouted slogans asking for immediate notification of the final award of the Cauvery tribunal.

On the power sector issues, the ATP members expressed displeasure that the State was not getting adequate share from the Central pool despite facing shortage in power supply. They wanted the Centre to allocate entire power generated from Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant for the use within the State to tide over the present crisis.

The diesel price hike, according to them, has affected the profitability of public transport bus services.

Likewise, the train fare hike had a cascading effect on the entire society considering that the common man was confronted with high inflation.

District Panchayat chairman M. Shanmugam, former Minister C. Shanmugavel, Mayor Visalakshi Appukutty, Deputy Mayor S. Gunasekaran, MLAs, and senior AIADMK leaders addressed the ATP members.
