CPI (M) seeks separate police division to prevent honour killings

The State government should take steps to form a separate division in the police to prevent honour killings and to protect inter-caste marriage couples, G. Ramakrishnan, polit bureau member of the CPI (M), said here on Saturday.

Speaking to presspersons after meeting the family members of a 16-year-old Dalit girl who died here in a suspected honour killing, Mr. Ramakrishnan said the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has already ordered the State government to form such a division in the police. However, the government did not do so. Now it should take steps to form a separate division.

All the accused in the case should be arrested and those already arrested should be detained under the Goondas Act. The affected families should be paid solatium and government job should be provided to one family member, he said.
