September 27, 2011 02:22 pm | Updated 02:22 pm IST - COIMBATORE:

Judicial Magistrate VIII Arunachalam on Monday granted two days' police custody of P. Pyntamil, son of former Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy, in a land grab case.

G. Rajamanickam of Singanallur had preferred a complaint with Anti-Land Grabbing Cell of the Coimbatore City Police stating that his nephew along with a few others had grabbed 8.4 acres in Singanallur and another 3.10 acres in Uppilipalayam using forged documents and political clout.

The police registered a case against seven persons and arrested five on September 15, as the other two DMK functionaries, Pyntamil and ‘Meen Kadai' Siva, were already in judicial custody in another case of intimidation and land grab respectively.

On hearing an application from the police seeking custody of Pyntamil for interrogation, the court granted two days' custody and directed that the accused be produced on September 28 evening. The magistrate said that the advocates could meet the accused while in police custody on Tuesday and Wednesday.
