Four unidentified persons robbed a retired Air Force man and his wife at knifepoint near Sulur on Saturday night. Sulur police registered a case against the accused under section 392 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code.

Udhayabalu (63) and his wife Latha (58) are residents of Defence Colony, near the Air Force premises, in Sulur. Inspector S. Ramesh Kannan said that the house had a low compound wall and the gang managed to jump over the wall.

The couple was watching television when the culprits gained entry to the house by breaking open the side door. They also stopped the couple from raising an alarm by covering their mouths.

While two persons took away a gold chain, a pair of ear rings, a ring and a bangle weighing about six sovereigns from the woman, two others searched the cupboard for more valuables. They fled the place in a few minutes as they could not find anything more.

Experts collected fingerprints of three persons. Police sniffer dogs were also pressed into service.
