The Coimbatore Corporation will in the coming days start the service road work near the Nanjundapuram road-over bridge.
According to sources, the civic body had sometime ago granted approval for Rs. 75 lakh to lay roads on the Nanjundapuram and Ramanathapuram sides of the flyover.
Based on the approval, the civic body would lay road for 250 m each on Nanjundapuram side and for an equal length on the other side as well.
The work was likely to start Monday and end a month thereafter, said the area councillor (Ward 75) R. Kalaivani. The sources said that the civic body had half-completed the drainage work on one side of the over-bridge and would soon take up the work on the other side as well. And, about a month ago, it had installed lights beneath the bridge as well.
The service roads are expected to benefit residents of Kamarajar Colony, Uppilian Thottam, Mariamman Kovil Street, E. Devendra Street, Padasalai Street and a few other areas as they had suffered without good roads ever since the bridge construction was taken up a couple of years ago.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had inaugurated the bridge, a few days ago.
