Corporation converts over 32,000 street lights to LEDs across five zones

Coimbatore Corporation has converted 32,606 street lights to LED lights across five zones in the city as of Tuesday.

Out of 58,878 proposed conversions, as many as 26,272 street lights are yet to be converted, according to Corporation sources.

The highest number of conversions were done in the East Zone, where 12,268 out of 18,335 street lights were converted to LED lights. This is followed by the Central Zone, wherein 6,682 street lights out of 9,632 were converted so far. In West Zone and North Zone, 5,203 out of 11,175 and 14,948 street lights respectively were converted into LED lights. In South Zone, a total of 3,250 out of 4,788 street lights were converted, sources said.

The remaining street lights comprising sodium vapour lamps will be converted into the energy-efficient LED lights by the end of December, Corporation sources said.
