Corpn. school student seeks support

June 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - COIMBATORE:

N. Vivekanandan is excited. His feats on the field have helped him participate in the national selection for under-18 boys and girls in Bhopal.

If he emerges successful in the event, the Class XI student of the Coimbatore Corporation school in Sidhapudur will get the visa to represent the country in the Second Asian School Athletics Under-18 Boys and Girls Championship, to be held in Wuhan, China.

The boy says that his interest in the sports, regular practice, guidance from coach Nandhakumar at the Nehru Stadium here and help from a number of well-wishers, including the Coimbatore Corporation officials have helped him reach where he is.

The second son of banana leaf vendors S. Nagaraj and N. Saraswathy has represented the district and also the State in high jump, decathlon and a few other track and field events.

His selection to Bhopal for the trial is in high jump, says Sidhapudur school Head Master A. Michael Raj.

Vivekanandan’s day begins with a practice at the Nehru Stadium at 6 a.m. and the training schedule ends at 7.30 p.m. at the stadium.

He says he’s confident of emerging successful in the Bhopal trials but is unsure if he will jump over the financial hurdles required to go to Bhopal and then to China.
