‘Continue summer special train’

June 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, has appealed to Southern Railway to continue the summer special train between Chennai and Coimbatore operated on Friday and Saturday nights.

Chamber president D. Nandakumar has said in a press release that there are reports that the special train might be stopped by the end of this month. The train service should be continued for another three months, till the completion of the counselling sessions for students aspiring to do professional courses.

Night train service

Further, one of the long-pending demands of the region is a night train service between Coimbatore and Bengaluru. A train is now operated between Yeswantpur and Coimbatore on Thursday and Saturday nights. He said that the train should be operated on Wednesday and Sunday nights instead so that commuters have enough business days to complete their work and return. Though Coimbatore is a hub for industrial activities, its railway infrastructure and connectivity needs to be improved, he said.
