Committee to be formed to check school buses

A committee comprising Regional Transport Officers (RTOs), the police, and top officials of the departments of revenue, and school education, will be formed to check buses of educational institutions.

Notices have been sent to private schools to bring the vehicles for checking. Officials want to ensure repair works recommended after the checks are carried out before the academic year commences.

There are 284 private schools in the district, and they operate 1,265 vehicles to commute students.

The checks will begin on May 15.

Last year, a committee headed by the PA (General) to District Collector was formed for the purpose.

Transport Department sources said that some members of the committee have got transferred.

Members

The new members will be finalised in a couple of days.

The institutions will be given seven days to rectify faults, and meet the specifications laid down in the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles (Regulation and Control of School Buses) Special Rules, 2012.
