Collector reviews TWAD schemes in Salem

District Collector S. Karemgham reviewed the operations of drinking water schemes of Tamil Nadu Water supply And Drainage Board here and advised officials to ensure uninterrupted supply during summer season.

According to officials, besides the dedicated drinking water scheme from Mettur dam to Salem Corporation, the TWAD Board has implemented 10 combined water schemes in the district and Mettur dam is the major source of water for all schemes.

The officials said 179 MLD was drawn to supply safe drinking water to residences in six municipalities, 31 town panchayats and 5,021 rural residences in the district.

In a release, Mr. Karmegham said Mettur dam had sufficient storage of water to meet the drinking water needs of people during summer.

The authorities were advised to repair any issues in drinking water pipelines and water pumps on a war footing. They were told to create awareness among the public on the importance of water and the need to use it judiciously during summer.
