Collector clarifies on building rules in landslip-prone areas

The Nilgiris District Collector has issued clarification on building rules for new constructions in areas deemed to be landslip-prone.

Addressing the concern among landholders that permission would not be given for constructing any buildings in any of the zones, deemed by the district administration to be in landslip-prone areas, she said there was no blanket ban on constructing buildings in such areas.

But relevant government departments, as well as the local bodies, will carry out detailed inspections before granting building permissions.

The district administration has marked these zones under three categories, based on the risk-assessment of the vulnerability of the slopes.
