Coimbatore Corporation on Monday removed encroachments from a road that branches off at Sungam – Ukkadam Bypass Road here for road widening.
Officials said that the road widening would ease traffic congestion and facilitate smooth movement of heavy vehicles. The widening project is still in its preliminary stage, officials said.
Corporation Commissioner Sravan Kumar Jatavath, Corporation Deputy Commissioner Prasanna Ramasamy, and South Zone Assistant Commissioner T.R. Ravi oversaw the removal of seven structures.
The evicted residents were given allotments in Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) tenements at Pullukadu earlier this year, officials said.
Earlier, Mr. Jatavath and Mr. Ramasamy visited Saramedu (Ward No. 75) to inquire the residents regarding basic amenities including roads and street lights, according to officials.
