District Collector Archana Patnaik is likely to select a location for a new building that will accommodate the mortuary of the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Fund sanctioned While the State Government sanctioned Rs. 1.82 crore for the new building several months ago, construction is yet to start as the site is yet to be finalised, according to hospital sources.

Following recent complaints from those residing in areas around the mortuary, the hospital officials discussed the issue again with the Collector in the past two days.

Ms. Patnaik had assured the hospital officials that a decision was likely to be announced after she returns from the District Collectors’ conference being chaired by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa at the Secretariat.

Hospital officials are keen to commence construction at the earliest as they are worried about cost escalation if the project is not completed before March 2014.

They said that they expected to begin construction within a week or two. Construction of the new building was expected to take around three months.
