The Coimabtore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) will soon become part of the teleradiology network which the Health Department is implementing by linking Radiology Departments of selected Government hospitals in the State.
Under teleradiology programme, diagnosis images captured using computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines will be uploaded to the server of a dedicated network and doctors connected to it can view the same.
“The team of doctors and staff to be part of the programme in CMCH will attend a training session on teleradiology on July, 6 in Chennai. A dedicated tower has been set up at the hospital for enabling the teleradiology network. Other works of the programme will be completed very shortly,” said CMCH Dean B. Asokan.
The Department of Radiology at CMCH has doctors and technicians working round the clock. However, several secondary level hospitals in the region comprising the Nilgiris, Erode, Dindigul and the Nilgiris do not have doctors working in the department round the clock.
“Small hospitals that are equipped with CT scan machine but lacking a radiologist round the clock will be benefited by teleradiology. Images of scans uploaded by such hospitals can be examined by any doctor who is linked to the network,” said Dr. Asokan.
CMCH is equipped with a 16-slice (slice denotes number of cross-sectional imaging taken) MRI machine and two CT scan machines. Government hospitals at Mettuapalayam, Ootty, Coonoor and Kotagiri are also having CT scan machine.
