Coimbatore Medical College Hospital has received a lithotripter, courtesy the Lions Club of Coimbatore Elite. Releases from the district administration and the Club say that the Club through its president V.P. Alalasundaram presented the Rs. 63,000-worth equipment to the Collector M. Karunagaran, who in turn, gave it to the CMCH Superintendent Isaac Christian Moses.

The district administration release says that the hospital, until recently, had to carry out surgery to remove stones in the urinary tract.

This forced patients to spend more time at the hospital. With the equipment, the hospital will be able to perform a simplified procedure to break the stones and remove it from the tract.

The Club release says that the Department of Urology at the CMCH caters to people from Erode, Tirupur, Salem, Dharmapuri, parts of Dindigul and Kerala districts bordering Tamil Nadu.

Use of lithotripter will help the patients resume regular activities on the third or fourth day and in a few cases the very next day. Mr. Karunagaran appealed to the Club members to continue their good work for the betterment of the society. Club governor Parameswaran, Resident Medical Officer P. Sivaprakasam and other doctors were present on the occasion.
