CM announces road widening projects for Erode district

Works on to prepare DPR for outer ring road, Bhavani

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said here on Wednesday that road widening and upgrading works would be taken up in the district.

At the golden jubilee celebration of Vellalar Educational Trust at Thindal, Mr. Palaniswami said that work was under way to prepare a detailed project report for outer ring road for Bhavani Town and added that land acquisition work was in progress.

Tender has been floated for four-laning of Gobichettipalayam – Chithode Road at a cost of ₹ 220 crore. The road from Chithode to Veerappanchatiram would be widened by the State government, he said.

The Chief Minister said that ₹ 14.47 lakh has been allotted for preparing a detailed project report for the construction of a new bridge across River Bhavani at Bungalow Pudur. The existing bridge is 70 years old.

Mr. Palaniswami said that the nine km road that connects Thindal on Kangayam Road with Villarasampatti on Sathy Road would be widened at a cost of ₹ 22.50 crore. A bridge would be constructed across River Cauvery to connect Kodumudi in Erode district with Pulikkal in Namakkal district.

He said that the Erode – Bhavani – Mettur – Thoppur State Highway would be upgraded to national highway. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has accorded in-principle approval to upgrade the 77 km State highway from Bhavani to Karur.

The Chief Minister said that 90% of the works for the outer ring road project for Erode city has been completed and 12 cases related to land acquisition were pending in the court. He said that the construction of a flyover was under way on Sathyamangalam – Athani – Bhavani Road at ₹ 2.2 crore and the works would be completed soon.
