In what appears to be a move to focus on tackling the mounting e-waste, Coimbatore Corporation has joined hands with a couple of NGOs in a bid to show the way on how to deal with it.
Expo
A bin for collecting e-waste and an expo on the types and nature of e-wastes was organised at Bharathi Park in Ward 22.
It was inaugurated by Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan. The initiative was under the Capacities - Sunya Project.
Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC), Bharathi Park Ladies Association and the agency that is going to take, deal or handle the e-waste will be Green Era Recyclers.
The initiative will take all assistance and support from various foreign bodies such International Council for Local Environment Initiatives, South Pole and E-concept, said R. Raveendran of RAAC.
E-waste bin, a first of its kind in the entire State for collection of e-waste was also inaugurated, and the mini expo showcased the evolution of electronic waste and the nature of products that come into the system.
The e-waste bin has several compartments for CFL, fluorescent lights and batteries besides various other forms of mixed e-waste.
For bulk disposal of e-waste, individuals, firms, and organisations could get in touch with Green Era Recyclers for ensuring a safe and environment-friendly disposal.
