In its first grievance redress day meet after a gap of almost three years, the Coimbatore Corporation on Wednesday received 61 petitions.

Commissioner Sravan Kumar Jatavath and Deputy Commissioner S. Prasanna Ramasamy received petitions from individuals, residents and a few residents’ welfare association representatives which began at 8 a.m.

The petitioners wanted the civic body to clean choked drain, fix faulty street lights, ensure supply of water to community toilets, repair damaged roads among other issues.

Among the petitioners were a few residents of Ward 26 (Vellakinaru) held candles after submitting petitions to highlight the fact that street lights were faulty for long in their locality and wanted the civic body to repair those at the earliest.

Two representatives of a gated community on Nanjundapuram Road wanted the civic body to clean the underground drainage, which they said was choked because of a road widening work.

A few residents of Ponnaiahrajapuram wanted the Corporation to remove encroachments to construct a scheme road linking Selvapuram.

A release from the Corporation said 18 petitions were regarding issues in the East Zone, 14 in West Zone, eight in North Zone, four in South Zone and six in Central Zone.

Other petitions were on subjects related to the Town Planning, Council, Engineering and Education wings.

The release quoting Mr. Jatavath said the Corporation would continue to hold the grievance meeting on Wednesdays. He told reporters that the civic body could stick to the 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. for now because it helped even working persons to submit petitions before leaving for work.

He also said that the civic body had forwarded the petitions to the concerned wings or officials and would follow-up the action taken.
