City hospital hosts conference on laparoscopic surgery

The eight international conference on laparoscopic surgery and ‘Laparosurg’ workshop, a three-day event being organised by the Gem Hospital, concluded on Saturday.

According to a press release, the conference focused on various aspects of basic and advanced minimally-invasive surgery, ranging from bariatric surgery to gastrointestinal cancer surgeries.

Several surgical procedures were telecast live from the Gem Hospital to conference venue of CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex. The first day featured surgeries related to appendix, gall bladder and hernia.

They were performed by eminent surgeons in the field. Dr. Barry Salky, a surgeon from the U.S., delivered a lecture on the complication in laparoscopic surgery. Hospital Chairman C. Palanivelu spoke during the inaugural function.

Faculty from various countries including Thailand, South Korea, and France took part in the conference. More than 200 surgeons took part in the conference.
