The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Southern Region, will organise a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) meet here on March 9 to showcase the sustainable and best practices adopted by the stakeholders.

According to Ravi Sam, Chairman (Sustainability) - Corporate Social Responsibility, CII-Southern Region, the day-long event will highlight some of the significant works done by corporate companies towards CSR.

The event is expected to be one of the largest CSR congregations of companies, CSR foundations, government agencies, non-profit organisations, social businesses, and advisory firms. The projects to be focused will be under three major sub-heads: community (health, education, skill development, and rural development), environment (climate action, water, soil, disaster management, and carbon footprints) and economy (gender equality, reduced inequalities, employment and training, resource efficiency, and energy issues).

Called “Reviving Successful Models for Sustainable Tomorrow”, the programme will be inaugurated by Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development S.P. Velumani and will have five key sessions with a panel of speakers in each.

CSR spending

Public sector enterprises account for more than one-fourth of the country’s total CSR spending. And one-third of the spending is on education and skill development. Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Gujarat have received over 25 % of the country’s total CSR funds and the number of projects increased 25 % in 2018 compared to the previous year.

The meet will not only throw light on the CSR projects implemented but will also guide the participants on the different areas for CSR spend and how the works can be taken up, he added.
