Central Government schemes launched

The Nilgiris Collector P. Sankar on Saturday launched the Central Government’s pension and insurance schemes and gave away certificates at a function held at the Breeks Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Ooty, said a release from the district administration. Representatives from Canara Bank, State Bank of India, Syndicate Bank, Indian Bank and a few others and the Life Insurance Company participated.

The release added that on the first day, 28,000 persons joined the schemes.

Aadhar cards

Those members of the public who have had their biometric details captured for issue of Aadhar cards may approach the e-seva centres the Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation managed in the six divisions in The Nilgiris district, says a release from the district administration. The centres are open on all days except Sundays and holidays, from 9.45 a.m. to 5.45 p.m. At the e-seva centres the applicants should enter the 14-digit registration number on the acknowledgement slip to get Aadhar cards.

They will have to pay Rs. 40 to get Aadhar cards, which will be made of plastic. Those with Aadhar cards but desirous of having plastic cards may also approach the centres and pay Rs. 30 for the purpose, the release adds.

Special camp

The Nilgiris district administration on Sunday conducted a special camp to enable voters’ link Aadhar cards with Voter identity cards and also provide their mobile phone numbers and e-mail address.

A release from the district administration said that the Sunday’s camp was in continuation of the efforts it had been taking since March 25, this year.

The administration conducted the camp in all the polling booths in the district and at the Government Polytechnic College, HPF, Thalaikundah, Neerkaichimund and a couple of other places. Collector P. Sankar inspected the progress.

The release adds that the voters also made use of the camp to carry out corrections in entries against their names in the voters’ list.
