The police have registered a case against a suspended town planning inspector, previously attached to the Gudalur Municipality, for allegedly defaming and threatening the Nilgiris District Collector and Municipal Commissioner.

According to police, Arivudainambi was suspended from duty by Municipal Commissioner (in-charge), Gudalur, P. Pandiya Narayanan, after he allegedly opened a previously sealed building that was closed down for construction violations.

However, it is alleged that Arivudainambi called up the Commissioner and threatened him and the Collector, leading Mr. Narayanan to register a complaint with the Nilgiris district police. Police confirmed that a case has been registered against Arivudainambi, and that they were on the lookout for the accused.

In another development, Arivudainambi released a video through mobile messaging applications over the weekend, accusing the Collector and Commissioner of corruption, and stating that he would return to work at the Gudalur Municipality starting from Wednesday.

A district police official in-charge of investigating the incident said they were aware of the video and that appropriate action would be taken against Arivudainambi for defamation.
