City Crime Branch sleuths have registered a case against four Agriculture Department staff on charges of faking an e-mail id in the name of another person and sending malicious mails against a fellow staff.

Police said that a retired Agriculture Department staff M. Mahalingam from Namakkal lodged a complaint stating that a few persons in the office of the Joint Director of Agriculture – Coimbatore had created a fake e-mail id similar to his id and had used the same for sending malicious e-mails causing disrepute to a fellow staff.

The complainant said that the four had created a fake e-mail by adding just one alphabet (initials of the complainant) before his original id and the same was used for sending malicious mails complaining about the administrative officer.

Based on his complaint, the police registered a case against Raman, Badrappan, Ramesh and Kavibharathi, all employed in the office of the Joint Director of Agriculture. Police have invoked sections 419 of IPC and 66 D of Information Technology Act of 2000 against the accused. Investigations are on.
