Camera traps planned

January 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The Anamalai Tiger Reserve will get camera traps at Arivoli Nagar, near Vettaikaranpudur in Pollachi, after two suspected leopard attacks in the area within short intervals during the late hours of Tuesday left four persons injured, and two goats dead.

A senior official said that they would contemplate putting up leopard traps after they confirm the presence of a leopard. A preliminary investigation of the two sites of incidents had already been completed.

The officials said that while the pug marks near the farm indicated the movement of a leopard, no such traces were recovered near the residences where four were injured. As it was dark, the injured persons were also not sure if they were attacked by a leopard or a dog.

The tiger reserve has stepped up patrol in the area.
