Communist Party of India (CPI) has urged the district administration to upgrade the emergency ward at the Government Anna Hospital in Sathyamangalam.
At the party’s union level meeting at Sathyamangalam, a resolution was passed for upgrading the hospital.
The resolution said that the hospital, started in 1987 on 10-acre land, is estimated to serve 1.5 lakh people with 500 outpatients everyday. Though it is a taluk level hospital, amenities that were available at a Primary Health Centre is not available at the hospital. Even the post of chief doctor was lying vacant for the past six months.
Though 13 doctors were appointed for the hospital, only five were serving at the hospital while the other six doctors were serving as incharge doctors for other hospitals. Also, the hospital lacks CT scan, MRI scan, blood bank and other facilities. During emergencies patients from Talavadi and Hasanur Hills are shifted to the hospital.
However, due to poor facilities, patients were either shifted to Erode or Coimbatore that takes much time. Also, most of the patients were referred to hospitals in Erode and Coimbatore and the hospital serves little purpose to the needy.
Instead of referring the patients, adequate doctors should be appointed apart from improving the facilities so that life of patients is not left in peril. Former Bhavani Sagar MLA P.L. Sundaram and others took part.
