The delay in completion of underground sewerage scheme works on Agilmedu Street and Vasuki Street leads to frequent traffic congestion on Mettur Road.
Works began in the first week of June for constructing chambers and laying pipelines along the two streets that are used by buses to reach the bus stand. To aid the completion of work, mofussil and other buses were diverted through Mettur Road. This led to increase in flow of vehicles on Mettur Road, which gets congested during day time. Though vehicles other than buses such as two-wheelers, cars and autorickshaws were asked not to use Mettur Road to prevent congestion, they continue to use the road adding to the chaos.
Road users have urged the Corporation to complete the works on these two streets and open it for vehicle movement as early as possible. Traders and shopkeepers also wanted the works to be expedited, as they said that their businesses were affected completely in the last one month as vehicles were not allowed to use the streets.
Officials said that works were nearing completion and the streets would be opened for traffic by next week.
