Building plan approval: more powers to local bodies

The Corporation and a few other local bodies that come under the Coimbatore Local Planning Authority will have enhanced powers in according building plan approval for residential buildings. Their powers to approve of plans for commercial buildings, however, remains unchanged.

A release from the Coimbatore LPA Chairman and District Collector K. Rajamani said following representation from the members of the public to the Directorate of Town and Country Planning, the latter had delegated more powers to the local bodies under the Tamil Nadu Combined Development and Building Rules, 2009.

As per the new arrangement, local bodies would now be able to approve of building plans proposing buildings to the extent of 7,000 sq.ft. in eight dwelling units that measure not more than 12m in height in ground plus two storey structures or parking space (stilt), plus three storeys. The new arrangement was with effect from September 24, 2019, the release added.
