Refuting allegations made by Aathithamizhar Peravai of norms being flouted in the appointments in Bharathiar University, its Registrar P. Thirumalvalavan has said that all reservation norms were followed in letter and spirit. “There was no gross injustice done to Scheduled Castes”.

Reservation

In a recently held press conference, the Peravai's founder R. Adhiyamaan had said that Scheduled Castes were not represented as per reservation norms in any of the appointments. And, among the Backward Classes, a particular community had been given preference.

The clarification from the Registrar said that out of the 159 permanent teaching staff, 34 belonged to the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes forming 21.38 per cent, which was higher than the statutory reservation limit.

Roster

Since the 200-point roster was conformed to, no particular community was given preference.

Among the 257 daily wage employees, 51 belonged to the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, forming 19.8 per cent, which was above the statutory limit.

Out of the total 500 teaching and non-teaching employees, 94 belonged to Scheduled Castes that constituted 18.8 per cent.
