‘Bring down prices of pulses’

October 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Small hotel, Messes, Bakery and All food items owners welfare association has appealed to the State and Central Governments to bring down the prices of pulses.

Association president C.K. Subramanian said in a press release that the price of tur dhal has touched Rs. 200 a kg. Prices of other pulses, chilli and garlic are also on the rise.

The Union Government said prices were going up because of inadequate supply and took steps to import 5000 tonnes. Meanwhile, 36,000 tonnes of pulses were seized during raids conducted to check hoarding.

The small hotels are already hit by price rise and several other problems.

Hence, the State and Central Governments should stop online trading of pulses and distribute the pulses seized during raids to the public, and ensure the public gets essential products at affordable prices.

Coimbatore District Hoteliers’ Association president R. Srinivasan said that the association will have a meeting next week to decide on the price increase.
