Review of

MNREGS work

The Coimbatore district administration will hold a special Gram Sabha meeting on June 16 to review the action taken on the social audit of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. A release from the district administration said that the officials concerned have started the social audit in a few villages that come under the Periyanaickenpalayam Panchayat Union from June 8. The audit will end on June 16. On the day, at 11 a.m., the audit report will be available for review.

‘Close open wells’

District Collector Archana Patnaik has ordered closure of wells and borewells that were found open in unsafe condition, says a release from the district administration.

In the survey carried out on May 26 and 27, officials had found out that 1,058 wells and borewells for public use and 2,351 on private lands were lying unsafe. The people concerned would do well to immediately take precautionary measures by closing the well openings with lids to prevent children from falling in.

If they failed, the administration would not hesitate to initiate action under the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Panchayat Act.
