According to a State Highways Department official, the high level bridge across River Bhavani at Kitchakathur in Mettupalayam Taluk was damaged and heavy vehicles were unable to use it.

The residents of the villages in the area had been demanding a new bridge and the administrative sanction for it was given in 2011.

Fund

The Government sanctioned Rs. 6.02 crore for the project and works started in March 2013 and were completed in February this year.

The 147 metre-long bridge has 12 metre wide carriage way and 1.5 metre wide footpaths on either side. The project includes 355 metres long approach road.

With the inauguration of the new bridges all vehicles will be able to use it even during the rainy season.
