Boy drowns in pond

Dinesh Kumar (11), a fifth standard student of a Government School at Balamurugan Nagar here, drowned in a pond on Monday evening. He went to the pond at Kulathuputhur along with his friends. Police sources said a strong undercurrent drifted him into the middle of the pond from where he could not come out. Investigation is on.

Goods stolen

Two youth had allegedly stolen Rs. 40,000 from a shop selling electrical and automotive spare parts at Mulanur near here on Tuesday. Police said the accused came to the shop in the pretext of buying some goods. While the shop owner was searching for the items, they took the cash kept in the drawer near the counter and ran away. The Mulanur police are investigating.

Student missing

R. Prabhakaran (16), a school student, was reported missing from Dharapuram. He went to the school but did not return home.

His parents lodged a complaint with the Dharapuram police.

Lottery tickets seized

The Dhali police seized 1,050 lottery tickets and 100 gram ganja from a 46-year-old man. The accused, G. Sakthivel, was later remanded to judicial custody.
