Book on birds released

A compilation of the birds of Tamil Nadu documented by Tamil birds Yahoo group members was released at the second Tamil birders network meeting that began at Farmers Residency in TNAU on Saturday.

The two-day event was inaugurated by I. Anwardeen, Conservator of Forests, Coimbatore circle.

About 60 birdwatchers, bird researchers, students, and nature enthusiasts from various parts of Tamil Nadu, and Kerala are participating in the meeting. The Yahoo group, tamilbirds (tamilbirds@yahoogroups.co.in) formed in 2006 is moderated by V. Santharam, Tamil Nadu State coordinator of the Indian Bird Conservation Network.

Workshops on documenting and listing of birds throughwww.ebird.organd monitoring the important bird areas of Tamil Nadu were discussed at the meeting.

To increase the awareness on birds, and to encourage bird watching as a meaningful hobby, it has been decided to conduct a Pongal Bird Count.
