The 4th edition of the Coimbatore Book Festival 2018 (CBF 2018) got off to a grand start at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex on Friday.
The book fair, with over 255 stalls and 175 exhibitors, is organised by Codissia in association with The Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (Bapasi). T. Udhayachandran, Secretary of School Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, inaugurated the fair.
Writer S. Ramakrishnan was awarded Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural.
The fair has a miscellaneous collection of books that ranges from medicine, political fictions, mystery, fantasy, non- fictions, self-help and books exclusively for workforce.
A stall that sells pencils made of papers and a multimedia stall that sells CDs on computer science, civil and mechanical engineering subjects are also part of the book fair.
M. Venkatesh (24), who visits the book fair every year, feels that the fair has books that cater to all age groups.
P. Mani, an avid reader, says that the fair met his expectations. He attended the fair last year too. Vanathi (12) says the fair has a variety of books of her interest.
Pavai Publishers and Nimir Publishers are some of the new entrants to the fair. Various stalls offered discounts up to 75%
Thumbi, a monthly bilingual magazine, has also set up its stall.
At the inaugural, R. Ramamurthy - president of Codissia, S. Soundrarajan - president of CBF 2018, D. Balasundaram - president of Ilakkiya Koodal, Kavingar Kavidasan, Sahitya Akademi awardee Sirpi Balasubramanian, E. K. Ponnusamy, president of Arivukeni, Codissia secretary P.S. Devarajan and others took part.
The fair is open to visitors between from 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. and entry is free.
