Bomb hoax: man picked up for questioning

The city police recently picked up a 45-year-old man from Neelikonampalayam for questioning, after he allegedly made a call to the police control room on January 28 stating that a bomb would go off during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city. It is learnt that Sekar Kumar called the control room in an inebriated condition as he was frustrated over by the intensive vehicle checks conducted by the police ahead of PM’s visit. He was warned and sent back.

Arrested for chain snatching

P. Prakash (23) of Anna Nagar Housing Unit in Kavundampalayam was arrested by the Karamadai police on Tuesday evening after he was caught red-handed by the public while snatching a chain from a woman. S. Pavithra (21), of Kooranur near Karamadai, was walking near Vijayanagaram Pirivu near Karamadai when Prakash allegedly snatched her three-sovereign chain.

DGP conducts review meeting

Director General of Police (Law and Order) Ashok Kumar, on Wednesday, conducted a review meeting for police officers in West Zone. The police Commissioners of Coimbatore, Tirupur and Salem cities , Inspector General of Police for West Zone, Superintendents of Police of all eight districts in the zone and a few other officers in Coimbatore city and district police took part.
