Bankers from private and public sector banks learnt more about solar energy products and financing these products under various schemes, at an awareness meeting held here on Saturday.
Selco Solar, a rural energy service organisation, organised the meeting here for bankers and displayed several products that operate on solar energy.
Coimbatore District lead bank manager S. Venkataramanan said that awareness needs to be created among the public and the bankers on solar energy products and how these can be financed with support under the schemes of the government. There are programmes with each bank under which purchase of solar energy products can be funded. But the lending has to improve. It is very minimum now in Coimbatore district, he said.
Farmers and micro, small, and medium-scale enterprises can get loans to buy solar products. “If there are good customers, from any sector, the banks should fund them to buy solar energy products,” he said.
Banks that have branches in own buildings can go in for solar energy and save on the electricity bills.
An interactive session was held in which the participants discussed about the different schemes and products and how a variety of solar energy products can be covered under these.
