Around 50 auto rickshaw drivers staged a sit-in on the premises of a taxi aggregator at R.S. Puram in the city on Tuesday.

According to secretary of Tamil Nadu Independent Rental Vehicle Owners and Drivers Association B.A. Vijayavel, the aggregator was operating bike taxis, defying the RTO’s directive.

However, an RTO official said no such instruction was given in the meeting held on August 28 between the drivers and transport officials.

The drivers also had a 10-point demand for the taxi aggregator to implement in its mobile application, including limiting the pick-up distance to 500 metres and allowing only three passengers at a time.

When contacted, a representative of the taxi aggregator denied the charges and dismissed the demonstration as a mere publicity stunt.
