An eight-day recruitment rally of the Army began at the Nehru Stadium here on Wednesday.

Organised by the Army Recruiting Office, Coimbatore, the rally is to recruit eligible men to serve as DSC, Soldier General Duty, Soldier Technical including Soldier Technical Aviation, Soldier Technical Dresser and Soldier Nursing Assistant, Soldier Tradesmen, and Soldier Clerk / Store Keeper Technical.

Candidates from Coimbatore, Theni, Dharmapuri, The Nilgiris, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Namakkal, Erode, Dindigul, Tirupur, and Salem, are participating in the rally.

According to Director Recruiting, Colonel Tarun Madan, the first two days are for selecting candidates for the trade of Soldier General Duty.

“This trade requires the maximum number of recruits and so we have allotted two days for this. Candidates from five districts are attending the selection process on Wednesday, and others from the rest of the districts are attending on Thursday. For the rest of the trades, only one day will be allotted,” he said.

Process

Explaining the selection process, the Colonel said that it would start with documentation, physical fitness test, physical measurements, and end with a medical test.

Those who clear in all these will be called for a written test to be held on February 2, 2014, in Coimbatore.

Following this the merit list will be published and recruits will be sent to the various training centres.

Expressing happiness over the response shown by youth from the districts, the Colonel said that there was no specific number that the Army was looking at in terms of selection.

The response was due to the quality of life the Army provided, he said.

Candidates who have passed Standard X and Plus-Two and meeting the required eligibility criteria are attending the rally.
