Approval for 2 scheme roads

The Corporation Council meeting on Wednesday cleared the proposals for two scheme roads.

The meeting was presided by Mayor S.M. Velusmay.

The scheme roads will be executed using money from the infrastructure funds of the Local Planning Authority.

One of the roads will connect Selvapuram and Perur with Thadagam Road.

It will start from the police station on Perur road and pass through Narayanasamy Nagar, Subramania Udayar Street, Panaimarathur, Thondamuthur road intersection, and join the Thadagam Road near R.S. Puram Corporation school.

It will benefit residents of Thillai Nagar, Muthusamy Colony, LIC Colony, S.A. Garden, CGV Nagar, Jayalakshmi Nagar, Telugupalayam, Panaimarathur, Chockampudur, PM Samy Colony and R.S. Puram. Land will have to be acquired for the purpose and the approximate cost is estimated to be Rs. 18.70 crore.

The other road is from the Singanallur tank connecting Vellalore road. It will help those in Singanallur and going via Singanallur to reach Podanur and L&T Bypass road. It will help ease traffic along Tiruchi Road. The approximate cost of land involved will be Rs 1.64 crore.

The Mayor, and Corporation Commissioner T.K. Ponnusamy told reporters that these roads were part of the five scheme roads proposed in the budget presented in the council on March 13. The other proposals too would be cleared soon, they said. The council approved construction of shelters for passengers at bus stops in all the 11 added areas of the corporation. Such shelters would come up on Mettuppalayam Road up to Thudialur Road, Vadavalli Road, till Corporation limits on Avanashi Road, Pollachi Road, Palakkad Road, Sathyamangalam Road, from Avanashi Road till Nehru Nagar, Podanur Road, Saravanampatty to Thudialur Road, Tiruchi Road till Ondipudur, Vilankurichi to Sathyamangalam Road, Kalapatti Main Road from Avanashi Road junction to Sathyamangalam Road junction, Vilankurichi to Saravanampatty Road.

The construction would be carried out with private participation.

The council approved another resolution permitting the purchase of five walkie-talkie hand sets for chair persons of the five zones.
