Applications invited for best home rose, vegetable and fruit garden competitions in the Nilgiris

The Department of Horticulture has invited applications from residents and farmers wanting to participate in competitions to judge the best home rose, vegetables and fruit gardens. The competitions are being held contemporaneously with the summer festival’s vegetable show, rose show and the fruit show.

In a release, the department said the 11th vegetable show was set to take place at Nehru Park in Kotagiri on May 7 and May 8. In connection with the vegetable show, people wanting to participate in the competition for the best home vegetable garden could submit their applications to the office of the Deputy Director of Horticulture in Kotagiri before April 22.

A committee to judge the vegetable gardens would visit the homes of the applicants between April 25 and April 27, the release said.

Similarly, residents and farmers interested to take part in the competition for the best home rose gardens could fill in applications at the Rose Garden in Udhagamandalam from April 15. Applications should be submitted before April 25, and a committee of judges would visit the homes of the applicants between April 28 and April 30, the release said.

In connection with the 62nd fruit show in Coonoor, competitions for the best orchards were being held. Those interested to participate could get the applications from the office of the Deputy Director of Horticulture at the Sims Park in Coonoor from May 2. The applications were to be submitted by May 9. A team of judges would visit the applicants’ orchards between May 11 and May 13, the release added.
