To prevent outbreak of communicable diseases, the civic body has engaged 300 workers in anti-dengue operations in all the 60 wards within the Corporation limits.
District Collector C. Kathiravan and Corporation Commissioner M. Elangovan inspected the anti-dengue operations at Krishnampalayam here. Workers were involved in fogging, desilting drains, removing obsolete items and educating residents on the need to keep their premises clean.
A fine of ₹ 500 was levied on a resident for keeping his premises untidy. A shopkeeper who was in possession of banned plastic items was fined ₹ 1,000 during the inspection. Mr. Kathiravan asked the workers to finish the works before the onset of monsoon.
Mr. Elangovan told media persons that various steps have been taken to prevent outbreak of dengue. He said residents should remove obsolete items from their houses, keep overhead tanks clean and closed and handover waste to conservancy workers. The people were advised to visit the nearest hospital if they have fever symptoms. He said that each worker would inspect 50 houses a day to check breeding of mosquitoes and general cleanliness. Officials said that since the city was experiencing rain in the last few days, anti-dengue operations have been expedited.
