Aavin booths have added one more sweet to their racks ahead of Deepavali - mysurpa that commands unflinching loyalty in rural areas.

The Aavin booths of the Tamil Nadu Milk Cooperative Society here have already stocked up the ghee mysurpas fresh from its manufacturing facility here.

For the local Aavin administration, the mysurpas will be a special attraction in its retail booths. It was given a formal launch with Aavin General Manager P.Kumaran giving a sweet box to Collector S.Prabhakar on Wednesday.

Selvam, Marketing Manager of Aavin, said to The Hindu that Aavin would set up mobile booths in the weekly santhais in Uthangarai, Pochampalli and other places in the run up to Deepavali. Earlier, the manufacturing facility only made palkovas. But, this time, Aavin had introduced the special ghee mysurpas, Mr. Selvam added.

However, with just a day gone by since the introduction of the sweet, the demand is yet to be known. At present, as a festival offer, 250 g of mysurpa is sold at ₹110.

Aavin has other sweets like gulab jamun and rasgulla, which are manufactured in Chennai and sent to the outlets here. These are priced at ₹80 per quarter kg.
